After watching this week's TWiG, Friday night I finally had a chance to try installing Known on my fallow domain & Bluehost account. Most of the past web stuff I've done has been WordPress, so I'm used to a fairly mature install & spending most of the time messing with extensions. Installing Known took a bit more tweaking, the main hump being that the schema isn't automatically applied to the MySQL database. After a little playing around with myPhpAdmin I had things going. Well, except I forgot to put a '/' at the end of my upload directory name, so my profile pic wouldn't show up until I fixed that. But other than a couple things like that, it wasn't that troublesome.

The way #indyweb stuff like Known works takes a little getting used to (such as how commenting works). Also I think there really needs to be some mechanism built into the system to follow other people & aggregate their posts on your own site (instead of using RSS, Twitter, etc). That's an important part of what makes other social platforms sticky (since most of regular people aren't creating content most of the time, but reading the content of others).

Anyways, I think it'd be great if twit.tv did a few episodes on this kind of stuff -- say a "Know How" on setting up Known or a "Triangulation" with someone on the philosophy of indyweb.
